Assignment 1: OLJ creation & first entry

Web 2.0 represents a second generation in the development of World Wide Web or Internet technologies, the combination of concepts, trends, and technologies, allow users to have collaboration, sharing, storage, distribution and social networking in the form of blogs, Wikis, Face Book, Instagram, Linkedin These social network tools allow people to create, collaborate, edit, categorize, exchange, promote information and encourage people to open communication. Those applications are web-based, free of charge and can be assessed everywhere. So, data is not controlled by one but by many, and everything is connected.

Social networks create great funs and prowerful force for good result or vise versa. They allow users to create digital content, publish, upload photo albums & video for sharing their lives, entertainment (online game) or maketing the business to  get connection with friends, family or potential customer. Facebook is the world's largest social networking company (BBC News). Everyone can be an author or film director, as everyone can publish or release film on web freely for personal interst or promote business. That allow people to contribute to popular culture, disaster relief and even political change. There are many good examples of find and lost on Facebook, say meet our old friends online, retrieve separated parents and children, abandoned animal may find home, etc. Also, people form groups like our INF506 group to share the ideas that enhance the learning process, encourage the communication and interactive between students and teachers or doing business activities. Just like I received an email this morning and the vendor also share their business on social networks.

Get social with us! "Like" our page and get updates on our latest books, reviews and many more!Follow us on Twitter!LinkedIn to us!Check out our boards on Pinterest!

Well, while we can see so many adventages of the social networks. We should aware that people we don't know may also able to view our profile page. It is highly recommended that we should review the privacy settings for our account or take young children's account. Maintaining privacy is one the biggest considerations for protecting ourselves and childrens on web ( BBC webwise ). However, we should always remember to use discretion in what we published on web as well as our profile. It is one way to keep yourself safe on social networks, since all post can remain  on web for a much long period that you might think and leaked of security. You may learn from news that someone lost his job opportunities becasue of old postings on social networks. Social networks bring us fun but we should know how to protect ourselves on web.

I don't have too much experience on using social networking technologies and sites . This is the first time for me to create a blog and manage it. (It seems that I don't manage very well at this moment, I may learn how to do it better during the process of posting assignemnt on it ). I only have a Facebook (fb) account for my personal use. I created the fb account since 2007. I was learning yoga and wanna be a yoga teacher during that time.  We upload photo, video, text and post linkage then comment each other's learning experience. But now, we have the INF 506 group for sharing our learning and experience. Before using fb, I upload photo to Picasa. However, Picasa was not good when uploading vidoe. We share photo album by email the linkage to designated person. I don't have blog before but I follow some traveller's blogs, librarian's blogs, also my friends' blogs. I view YouTube on different topics not only kill time for entertainment but also learning say this time I can find numbers of video about Web 2.0 or Social networking.

I do't have experience on using Twitter, Delicious, LindedIn, Flickr and Instagram. I should take this opportunity to learn how to use them and explore the way to use them on promoting the library service and apply on the user education, as well as self-learning.

Cheers~ Nice to share with you all.

Welcome

Welcome to my blog!

It is exciting to return to study after a break from Taiwan. INF506 is the final module of my Master of Information Studies at Charles Sturt Universtity, Australia.  I've never think that I'll create a blog to record down my study journal. THANK YOU for INF506, it is new learning experience for me to setting up a blog and how to use basic site features.
